A backpack full of fate. "The accident was a kind of reset," says para-canoeist Mendy Swoboda. "Everything that came before is actually irrelevant." Reset. To reset, then: Günter Valda has chosen this word as the title for his new photo book. Created in cooperation with the Austrian General Accident Insurance Institution, it shows people with missing limbs. Not shamefully concealing them, however. He displays the scars and empty spaces that various strokes of fate have left behind – and also brings the artificial limbs of his 17 models into focus. At the 2016 Paralympics, Mendy Swoboda won silver, by the way, and the water sports athlete became world champion multiple times. "Reset" presents the muscle man in underwear and tells his story briefly and concisely – as well as those of the 16 other extraordinary models.
